3 reasons to sign on for the region’s largest in-person job fair

With job openings in the United States hitting record highs, a national labor shortage is impacting businesses and organizations throughout the country. To assist employers in filling some of those local positions, the Flint & Genesee Group will host what’s being billed as “the largest in-person job fair in the region.”

On Sept. 16, the Flint & Genesee Career Expo will offer a platform for about 100 local employers to promote openings and conduct on-the-spot interviews for a collective 1,000+ jobs. Employers can sign up for the event, which will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center, by completing this form before the Sept. 10 deadline.

Not sure if your business or organization should participate? If you have job openings, here are three reasons for why you should.

  1. This is a great opportunity to reach your target audience — people who are ready and willing to work. Currently, there are nearly 15,000 people actively seeking employment in Genesee County. That’s not even including workers who are underemployed or a ready for a career transition. We’ll be actively marketing to them in the weeks leading up to the event. Our goal is to do the legwork of reaching jobseekers so the process is as simple and effective as possible for your business.
  2. The timing is right. While event organizers understand that many factors are contributing to the current worker shortage (e.g., childcare access, transportation), the event is intentionally timed to follow the ending of the weekly $300 federal unemployment payment in Michigan.
  3. It’s affordable, and it’s easy. The cost to participate is just $25 per employer and $10 for members of the Flint & Genesee Chamber. We’ll provide the tables and chairs. All you need to provide is your own table coverings, signage that fits within the booth space (10’x10’), as well as any applicable brochures, cards and applications.

So far, confirmed employers include Miller Industries, Genesee Intermediate School District and Ascension, among others.
