Flint & Genesee Chamber to Offer 20+ Professional Development Opportunities

(FLINT, Mich., January 25, 2019) – Whether you want to learn how to write a grant proposal or better understand content marketing, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce offers the resources to help make your goals a reality. By teaming up with experts in a variety of fields, the Chamber will offer more than 20 workshops and seminars during the first half of the year.

“A well-trained workforce is essential in positioning Flint & Genesee for continued economic growth,” said Steven Elkins, director of Member Services and Business Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “One way we support that workforce is by serving as a central, affordable resource for professional development.”

This winter and spring, the Chamber will offer workshops and trainings covering everything from financial planning to leadership development.

Kicking off this year’s offering is a new installment in the INSPIRE Leadership Speaker Series, which gives community members the opportunity to learn from local leaders. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, for instance, Karen Church will speak about her journey from high school co-op to CEO at ELGA Credit Union.

Soon after, Dr. Mary Berry of Learning Solutions will lead Managing Generational Shift on Thursday, Feb. 7. During the two-hour course, attendees will learn how to handle retention, accountability and performance management in Millennials, who have a different set of expectations and behaviors than their Gen X and Baby Boomer colleagues.

“This year, we’re offering training opportunities that are relevant to a variety of industries and skills levels,” Elkins said. “We’ve solicited feedback from members, past workshop attendees and local employers to put together a lineup that meets the needs of our local workforce.”

That input, for example, is the why the Chamber will be bringing back the popular AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising. The 15-hour, two-part course, to be held on March 11 and 18, is designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the real-world needs and challenges that nonprofit organizations face every day.

Thanks to the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, these professional development opportunities are provided at little to no cost to attendees.
