Flint & Genesee Chamber Receives Top Awards Recognizing Excellence, Innovation

Chamber Recognized by Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals, GrowthZone

(FLINT, Mich., Oct. 30, 2017) – The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce today announced receipt of two distinctive awards, including the 2017 Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award from the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals, MACP, and the 2017 Chamber Innovation Award from GrowthZone.

“We are thrilled to receive these awards,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. “They validate the work we do – every day – to move Flint and Genesee County forward, and recognize the efforts of our boards, members and community partners.”

Herman added: “We should all be proud of these accomplishments.”

Each year, the Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award is presented by the MACP – the industry association for chambers of commerce in Michigan – in three categories including Small, Mid-size and Large Chamber.

The Flint & Genesee Chamber was recognized with this year’s award in the Large Chamber category during the MACP Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting, held in Grand Rapids, Oct. 26.

“The Flint & Genesee Chamber received this award based on its accomplishments in leadership and governance, financial stewardship, business advocacy and member programming,” said Bob Thomas, Director for the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals. “Among the chamber’s noted achievements were its continued growth in membership and business engagement, a strong demonstration of local advocacy and a commitment to creative and innovative programming. The chamber’s ability to meet and address member needs in the midst of a regional crisis are commendable and serve as model programming for other chambers of commerce.”

Additionally, GrowthZone, a company that provides member management software and services, recently recognized the Flint & Genesee Chamber with its 2017 Chamber Innovation Awards, which highlight innovative programs, events and ideas that challenge the status quo. First-place awards were presented in three categories, including Small, Medium and Large Chamber.

The Flint & Genesee Chamber was awarded first place in the Large Chamber category for its Moving Flint Forward initiative, which launched in 2016 to address the business development needs arising out of, or magnified by, the Flint water crisis.

The centerpiece of this initiative – which resulted from a partnership between the Chamber, FlintNOW and the Community Foundation of Greater Flint – was a charitable fund created to provide financial support for small businesses, minority-owned businesses, North Flint redevelopment and activities that encourage tourism.
