YouthQuest Receives Grants for Montrose School District Programs and ArtQuest

YouthQuest students and a "tour guide" check out art work on display at the May 19, 2011 ArtQuest: An Exhibition Expedition event.

The Genesee Chamber Foundation (GCF) and the Genesee Area Focus Fund (GAFF) recently received grants to support YouthQuest activities from the Jennings Memorial Foundation and the Greater Flint Arts Council (GFAC) respectively.  The $7,500 Jennings Memorial Foundation grant provides support for the YouthQuest after school initiative program in the Montrose School District.   The $2,780 grant was awarded by the GFAC to fund YouthQuest’s cultural arts program—ArtQuest 2012.  GAFF and GCF are nonprofit organizations working under the auspices of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.

YouthQuestThe Jennings Memorial Foundation grant will support YouthQuest after school and summer programs at Kuehn-Haven Middle School in the Montrose School District.  Kuehn-Haven is one of 15 elementary and middle school-based YouthQuest sites serving 1,400 students in four districts, including:  Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools, Flint Community Schools, Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools and Montrose Community Schools.

The GFAC grant will help fund an arts exhibit representing cultures and continents from around the globe that is created by the students and displayed during the YouthQuest school year.  ArtQuest brings together projects from all 15 YouthQuest sites to form a gallery created in the lobby of the Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy building.

Tim Herman, CEO of the Regional Chamber says the impact of investing in after school and summer youth activities can be felt throughout the region.

“Thanks to the support of generous funders like the Jennings Memorial Foundation and GFAC, YouthQuest will be able to continue providing unique, life-changing programs for students,” said Herman.
