Learning STEAM
YouthQuest students participated in the second STEAMQuest in May. During the three-day event, students took part in multiple projects including learning how design and branding works and creating their own concepts for T-shirts. STEAMQuest gives YouthQuest students an immersive experience into concepts in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
Showing Appreciation
Brownell STEM Academy focused on appreciation during the month of May. To instill that in students, staff had them handwrite letters to friends and family they may not have seen in a while, make scented hand sanitizer to give to their teachers and make “thinking of you” cards to give to residents at local nursing homes. Students were able to share their appreciation for others while learning skills such as writing, art and science.
Mindful Art
Knowing that this past year has been stressful for everyone, including students, staff at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary had students participate in a mindfulness painting activity. Students were given pre-drawn canvases to guide their painting and a snack, then listened to music while they relaxed and practiced their creativity.
Snack Attack
To support students and their families, staff at Freeman Elementary put together snack boxes and delivered them to each family’s house. Boxes included snacks such as pretzels, Cheez-Its, popcorn, applesauce, mac and cheese and ramen noodles as well as an invitation to the End of the Year Movie Night held at the US 23 Digital Drive In Theatre.
