(Flint, Mich., Aug. 7, 2025) — On August 27, Women in Action (WIA), an employee resource group of the Flint & Genesee Group, alongside the Women’s Leadership Committee, a committee of the Flint & Genesee Chamber, will bring an inspirational and empowering luncheon free to the Flint and Genesee County community, thanks to the support of Dort Financial Credit Union.
With the theme “Empowered to Make a Difference,” participants will hear from two community leaders making their mark, as well as see inspirational stories from other women in the Genesee County community.
“I am really proud of the teams that are coming together to plan this important event and highlight the achievements of women in our community while empowering others to follow their lead,” says Sandra Etherly-Johnson, executive director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and community relations at the Flint & Genesee Group. “Our first event was a knockout success. We are hoping to make this year’s event even better.”
The event will be held at St. Michael’s Conference Center at 609 E 5th Ave. in Flint and will feature two featured speakers. These include DeAndra Larkin, CEO of the YWCA of Greater Flint, and Becky Gaskin, executive director of the American Red Cross East Central Bay Chapter. Other notable women in the community will also be highlighted during this empowering event.
The 2025 Women’s Equality Day Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with a complimentary lunch provided. Registration and networking will run from 11:30 a.m. until noon, and then the program and lunch will run from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Last year, the event exceeded the group’s expectations so much so that they had to move to a larger venue to accommodate the audience, with nearly 250 participants. This year, they expect to see around the same number.
