Forget ‘Back to the Future’ – go back to the past! Visit the early 1900s at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad and find out what life was like in a Great Lakes town at the turn of the last century. The Village has 34 historic structures including a working blacksmith shop, the Colwell Opera House, the one-room Stanley School House, the Atlas Grist Mill, Mater’s Cider Mill and a real Ice House.
Adding to the historic aura is the Huckleberry Railroad, named for the original Pere Marquette Railroad, which traveled from Flint to Fostoria. Passengers traveled part way to pick huckleberries and were picked up on the return trip. Powered by Baldwin steam locomotives, the railroad is narrow-gauge (3’ between the rails). Visitors can take a round-trip ride to experience what land travel was like before cars.
To experience water travel, visitors can cruise Mott Lake on the Genesee Belle, an authentic paddle wheel riverboat that departs from the Village Park, adjacent to the renovated antique Carousel.
Hours for Crossroads Village and the Huckleberry Railroad, located at 6140 Bray Rd., just north of Flint, are Wednesday – Sunday and Holidays, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
