Ten Foundations Commit Nearly $125 Million to Help Flint Recover

Flint residents woke up on May 11 to exciting news that 10 foundations – led by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation – have pledged nearly $125 million to support health, education and economic development to help Flint recover from the water crisis.

Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce CEO Tim Herman applauded the announcement of this substantial financial commitment to the community.

“It’s been seven months since the public health emergency was declared and we’re still entrenched in the water emergency, which has created not only a public health crisis, but an economic crisis as well. The impact has stretched far and wide,” said Herman. “The outpouring of support our city has received has been tremendous. Not only from people in Michigan, but from across the nation. And we are very grateful.”

The collaborative funding initiative will focus on six priorities.

  • Ensuring That all Flint Residents Have Safe Drinking Water
  • Meeting the Health Needs of Flint Families
  • Supporting Early Education
  • Building a More Robust Non-Profit Sector
  • Promoting Community
  • Revitalizing Flint’s Economy
