In Your Corner: Summer in Flint & Genesee

Tim Herman, CEO

Summer is a great time to be in Michigan, and better yet in Flint and Genesee County. There’s always something to see and do.  In fact, the Flint & Genesee Chamber has several great warm weather opportunities for our members over the balance of the summer and into the fall.

Our CVB team will host “Be a Tourist in Your Home Town” on July 20. It will be a blast! For a mere $1 you can purchase a passport that will allow you to tour eight stops and 19 venues… seeing them in a new light including behind the scenes in some cases. This event is guaranteed to turn all participants into great ambassadors of the various attractions in the greater Flint area.

On July 25, our Member Services team will host the monthly networking luncheon at the Flint Farmers Market.  If you arrive early, maybe you can do some shopping, and leave with fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to business contacts. Make the best of it!

The 2013 Back to the Bricks Cruise Weekend, August 13-17 will put a new spin on auto-inspired art through a new competition called Artomotive. The program was developed collaboratively between the Greater Flint Arts Council and the Flint & Genesee Convention & Visitors Bureau to benefit the Automotive Pioneers Statue Fund. The public is invited along with body shop painters and fine artists. If this sounds like something you or someone from your organization would be interested in, please see the related article in this issue of Inside Business.

During Back to the Bricks, we will once again host our Hot Dogs & Hot Rods event on the evening of August 15. Every year our staff looks forward to this event because it’s one of the fun ways that we show our appreciation to our members.   It’s a sight to behold when 1,000 people come together to enjoy food, drinks, music and each other.

Lastly, on September 25 our Education & Training Group will host the Disney Institute for a one-day workshop, “Disney’s Approach to Creativity & Innovation. More details will be forthcoming!

I hope to see you at one or all of these events. If you want more information, please visit our website. To rsvp, contact Brian Sullivan at or 810.600.1404.

All the best!
