Hundreds Accept Invitation to Become Tourists at Home

Flint & Genesee CVB Event Brings Community Together

(FLINT, MICH – July 20)  Today nearly 500 Flint and Genesee County residents were able to experience tourism Flint-style today during the Flint & Genesee Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) Be a Tourist in Your Home Town.  The day-long event enabled “Tourists” to visit 19 venues throughout Flint.

Tim Herman, Chamber CEO says that Be a Tourist in Your Home Town created a family reunion atmosphere where people were able to see the community in a whole new light.

“Today was a great day in Flint and Genesee,” said Herman.  “Hundreds of people spent the day experiencing places they either had never visited or had not seen in quite some time.  It is great to see how many people accepted the invitation to see our community through the lens of a tourist.”

For a $1 fee tourists were able to travel along a designated route visiting a variety of venues along the way.  Transportation was provided courtesy of event co-sponsor Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) of Flint.

Tourists were shuttled throughout the route on three special MTA buses to experience the venues at nine stops.  Downtown restaurants such as 501 Bar and Grill, Hoffman’s Deli, Flint Crepe Company and El Potrero opened their doors for discounted lunch or dinner throughout the day.

According to Cheryl DeFrain, Director of the CVB the day was fun and action filled for all those who accepted the invitation.

“We are more than pleased with the way our community accepted the invitation to become tourists in their home town,” said DeFrain.  “Hundreds of people from across Flint and Genesee were joined by visitors from across the country.  This is an amazing start to what we hope will become an annual tradition in our region.”
