How to Prepare for the Flint & Genesee Job & Resource Fair

On Thursday, October 17, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will host the Flint & Genesee Job & Resource Fair. Up to 25 employers will be on-site at the Genesee Valley Center looking to hire entry-level positions. Additionally, community resources will be on-site to provide support to job seekers.

“This is a great opportunity for job seekers,” says James Avery, director of Education and Training for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. “Not only does it provide the opportunity to interview with multiple employers, it also gives individuals the resources they need to succeed.”

To make a good impression at the fair, job seekers are encouraged to:

Look sharp

As saying goes, “dress for the job you want.” Job seekers should dress in business professional or business casual clothing. Make sure that their hair is clean cut. Park Place Hair Studio will be available on-site to cut and style hair.

Bring a top-notch resume

Employers expect to see a clean and professional resume from those applying to their company or organization. Make sure to bring multiple copies to hand out. During the fair, individuals will be on hand with computers to help job seekers create, perfect or print resumes if needed.

Free yourself from distractions

It is important for job seekers to focus on the employers with which they are interviewing. If possible, come by yourself and put your phone away, so you can give your full attention to each employer.

Practice, practice, practice

Develop a brief pitch that explains who you are and what you are interested in. Think about the skills you have and how they may relate to various jobs.

Confirmed employers include Pinnacle Hospitality, Speedway, Genesee Ceramic Tile, Francesca’s, Knights Inn and more.
