Four New Businesses Celebrate Opening in Downtown Flint

(FLINT, MICH. – August 13, 2013) Today four local businesses celebrated their grand opening in downtown Flint during a “Partners for Progress” press event hosted by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and the City of Flint.

Chyrsa’s Alterations and Exclusive Apparel Design, Timothy Goodrich Custom Shoes, BRIX and Network Labs “cut the ribbon” on their new location at 522 S. Saginaw Street.  The businesses are co-located in the building. Collectively, they represent a $60,000 investment and will bring six jobs downtown.

“Redevelopment in downtown Flint continues with entrepreneurs and small businesses joining those already enjoying success in the heart of the city,” said Tim Herman, Chamber CEO.  “It’s exciting to see these four businesses open up downtown this week along with the new Genesys Health Center and Pharmacy and Café Rhema.  They will soon be joined by Michigan State University’s public health program and the Flint Farmers Market.  We are truly building momentum in the region.”

Each of the businesses brings a unique service to downtown Flint.  Chyrsa’s is a custom apparel shop providing wedding and prom dresses, as well as casual clothing and costumes.  BRIX is the brain child of 13 year-old-twins Deven and Nihkil Mukkamala.  Downtown’s youngest entrepreneurs will sell locally made and imported urban apparel and craft items.  Timothy Goodrich Custom Shoes will create hand-made shoes and sell them from their new downtown location.  Tech start up Network Labs will provide 24/7 remote access to robotically controlled science laboratories.

According to Flint Mayor Dayne Walling these new businesses represent the spirit of ingenuity and entrepreneurship that will help the city continue to grow.

“Downtown Flint is a great place to do business,” said Mayor Walling.  “These four establishments represent the entrepreneurial spirit that is alive and well in our community.  I want to thank each owner for choosing downtown Flint.  They are joining a broad range of businesses drawing customers downtown.  The growing population of students, workers and customers will provide a good foundation for success.”
