Flint & Genesee Gift Ideas: Last-Minute Finds

Over the last few weeks, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce has provided gift recommendations, covering experiential gifts, locally made products, gifts that support local organizations and more.

And as we bring the Holiday Shopper campaign to a close for the 2017 holiday season, we’re sharing one last question submitted through our Gift Finder service:

Christmas is just a few days away, and I have yet to start my holiday shopping. Help!

Under the Wire in Davison

Here’s what our holiday shoppers had to say:

Hi, Under the Wire,

First things first—don’t panic. You have four days and many shopping options ahead of you!

To begin, we recommend checking out the Flint Farmers’ Market, which is open until 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23. If you’re in a hurry, head straight to the Friends of the Market booth – they sell gift certificates that can be used at any of the market’s 50-plus vendors.

Additionally, some businesses will be offering extended hours leading up to Dec. 25. For instance, Genesee Valley Shopping Center is open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24. The mall is home to more than 120 retailers, several of which are offering special sales and discounts.

If you’re shopping for an adrenaline junkie, head over to Shumaker’s Ski & Snowboard. In addition to larger ticket items such as snowboards and skis, the outfitter sells specialty gloves, goggles and hat, which make for ideal stocking stuffers. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

For friends and family with school spirit, stock up on collegiate sweatshirts at the University of Michigan-Flint Bookstore, open until 6 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, or the Mott Community College Bookstore, open until 5 p.m. Thursday and between 7:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday.

Shopping for an art aficionado? Check out the Flint Institute of Arts Museum Shop, which has jewelry, stationery, ceramics, glass, textiles, books, children’s items, and home décor that is unique to the area. The gift shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

And finally, if you have a golf ethusiast at home, consider buying tickets for the Ally Challenge. The tournament, to be held Sept. 10-16, will feature nearly 80 PGA TOUR Champions at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday!
