Career Edge – Workshops to help you get and keep a job

(FLINT, Mich., Sept. 17, 2013) — The Education & Training unit of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will launch Career Edge, a series of workshops designed to help adults prepare for the job market. Whether new to the job market, returning to the job market or simply having trouble navigating the job market, these workshops are designed to give participants the skills needed to get and keep a job.  The first workshop, Laying the Foundation, begins on Oct. 4.

“Career  Edge will give people the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st Century  workplace,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce.

The workshop series is based on targeted instruction in four areas:

  • Laying the Foundation, focuses on attitude, business etiquette and communication.
  • Job Search, includes resume development and job application completion.
  • Interview Preparation, emphasizes types of interviews, skills assessment and role playing.
  • Keeping a Job, focuses on dependability, ethics, teamwork and sphere of influence.

“We designed the program as an orientation to the workplace for those seeking first-time employment and a re-orientation for those returning to the workplace or seeking new opportunities,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Education and Training for the Chamber.

Cost for the program is $10 for students (high school and college) per workshop, and $15 for all others per workshop. Participants must pre-register and pay online at www.flintandgenesee.org/careeredge. Scholarships are available, contact   for information.
