YouthQuest and TeenQuest will be honored for making a positive impact in the community during the Genesee District Library’s 16th Annual Black History Brunch on Feb. 11.
The afterschool programs will receive the Partner in Progress Award during the event, which celebrates the contributions of African Americans to world history and inspires those in attendance to make a difference in the region and beyond.
“YouthQuest and TeenQuest have served thousands of young people in Genesee County over the years,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Education & Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber, which oversees both afterschool programs. “We are proud of that work and are honored to be recognized for it during such an important community event.”
The library will also recognize four individuals – Sheila Graham, Yvonne Penton, Reggie Smith and Charles Winfrey – with the 2017 Award of Excellence.
The event will be held at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc. Performances will include Detroit Motown cover band Serieux and comedienne Crystal P., who has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo and NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
