3 Facts About Flint’s New Early Childhood Education Center

Last month, a state-of-the-art early childhood education center opened its doors on the grounds of Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary.

The facility, called Educare Flint, provides free education for children ages two months to five years old and ensures that students and their families receive all the support needed to grow up safe, healthy and eager to learn.

Here’s what you need to know about the new school:

  1. The center is open to children who live in the City of Flint and were exposed to the Flint water system between April 2014 and August 2016.
  2. It doesn’t just serve students— it serves parents as well. Adult programming includes educational workshops, job training and other resources.
  3. The school operates year-round and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 a.m.

Educare Flint was made possible by partnerships between Flint Community Schools and the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, along with $11 million in grants from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to support the construction of the center. The state of Michigan is also playing a key role by providing funds for part of the school’s operations to support free, early childhood education.
