YouthQuest Highlights: August 2019

What’s the Plan, Stan?

Students at Durant-Tuuri-Mott were encouraged to brainstorm ideas for activities and offerings that would be available through YouthQuest this school year. Staff asked students to use their “Voice and Choice” to identify several staff-led clubs, which will kick off in September.

Let’s Get Physical

Physical fitness and nutrition are important at Eisenhower Elementary. The site promotes hydration with water coolers at every corner and stresses the importance of drinking water. In August, they started each day with a group stretch and made time to go outside and exercise.

A Head Start

At Brownell STEM Academy, students got a head start on learning in August. Staff at the site worked with students on their reading and math skills, so they were prepared once they started to receive homework in September.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

YouthQuest students learned about healthy living at Doyle-Ryder Elementary. By offering information to parents on healthy food choices, active living and gardening, students were able to bring what they learned at YouthQuest home. Students also took regular snack breaks to eat delicious fruits and vegetables.

YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
