YouthQuest Highlights: August 2018

Exploring New Places

For Summer on the Road’s end-of-the-year trip, students crossed the border to Toronto, Canada. Students visited the CN tower where they walked out on the glass platform. They also viewed the Toronto skyline from the edge of Lake Ontario and had dinner at Medieval Times. Students were apprehensive about the new experiences but, by the end of the trip, they were thankful for the opportunity.

Dog Days of Summer

Students at Holmes STEM Academy sharpened their learning skills by reading to service dogs. As a way to make reading fun, Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs brought their canine workers to YouthQuest where students learned how to take care of the dogs and read them stories.

Pitch a Tent

Multiple sites took an overnight field trip into the wilderness. At Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary and Holmes STEM Academy, students went camping and learned how to pitch their own tent, gathered firewood and made s’mores. For many students, this was their first time away from home.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

To celebrate the end-of-summer, students at Brownell STEM Academy hosted a red carpet event for family night. Students showcased their skills in a talent show, with performances including hip-hop and ballet dances, singing and gymnastics.

YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
