YouthQuest Highlights: April

Caring for Community

Students at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary learned the importance of giving back to their community in April and decided to come together to support the Stork’s Nest project at Southwestern Classical Academy. Stork’s Nest is a program that helps give essential items to new mothers and their children. Students combined their YouthQuest Bucks, which are rewards students can earn and turn in for prizes during program and used them to purchase items that were then donated to the Stork’s Nest.

Creative Crafting

Students at Eisenhower Elementary worked with HobbyQuest, a vendor that works with students to create a variety of projects. After receiving a box of supplies at home, students were led through projects with the HobbyQuest team such as building a helicopter out of foam, popsicle sticks and rubber bands and making their own kites. Through HobbyQuest, students learn key concepts such as engineering and physics while creating something they can enjoy later.

Enjoying the Earth

On April 22, Neithercut Elementary celebrating Earth Day. Earlier in the month students planted flowers which they were able to show off during the virtual event. Students also participated in presentations where they learned about important environmental issues such as pollution, how to recycle and the importance of bees.

Keeping Up with Karate

At International Academy of Flint, students in kindergarten through sixth grade work with the vendor Double Dragons. Students participated in karate practice with the vendor where they learned traditional karate moves while practicing physical fitness. The karate practice also focused on youth development and leadership skills by teaching lessons in self-discipline.
