Vote for Your Favorite Artomotive Hood During Back to the Bricks

You have a chance to help pick the Artomotive “People’s Choice” winner during this week’s Back to the Bricks festival in downtown Flint.  Juried voting in the automotive-themed art competition was completed August 8.

Artomotive car hoods will be on display from noon-8 p.m. each day through Friday, and up until noon on Saturday, at the First Street Lofts on Saginaw Street. The public will have a chance to vote for their favorite hood during this time, with the winner receiving $500. Winners in both the juried voting and People’s Choice will be announced Saturday afternoon at Back to the Bricks.

The Artomotive competition is in its second year. Ten artists entered this year, creating art out of a car hood.

“It is exciting to see the beautiful artwork created with these hoods,” said Cheryl DeFrain, Director, Flint & Genesee Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The time and thought going into each one of these pieces is amazing, and the finished product is inspiring. I hope everyone will come and see what these artists have created – and be sure to vote for your favorites.”

On Wednesday, August 13, all decorated hoods will be auctioned off during Back to the Bricks, with half of the proceeds going to the artists and the other half benefitting the Automotive Pioneers Statue Project. The hoods will remain on display after the auction throughout the festival and public voting.

Artomotive was formed as a collaboration among the Back to the Bricks Statue Committee, the Greater Flint Arts Council and the Flint & Genesee CVB.
