Looking for outdoor winter fun in Genesee County? Then consider perfecting your kick turns or flotation techniques just around the corner at For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum.
“There is no need to make reservations to break out the cross-country skis and snow-shoes,” according to Cheryl DeFrain, Director of the Flint & Genesee Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Genesee County has wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities, and For-Mar is a great destination for residents and visitors to our area.”
The 380-acre preserve is located in Burton, and features trails through meadows and woodlands.
Visitors can get warm and use displays of Michigan birds and animals to learn what to look for and how to recognize the wildlife of For-Mar. Naturalists are available and can help answer questions.
For the best experience — and to prevent damage to the terrain — it is recommended visitors first determine that the ground is frozen and there is at least a three-inch base of snow. The trails are not groomed, so early starters get to blaze the trail.
For-Mar is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. The Visitor’s Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is no entrance fee to For-Mar and parking is free.
