Summer Youth Initiative Seeks Employers; Hosts Informational Sessions for Nonprofits

The Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking for companies interested in hiring Summer Youth Initiative employees.  The SYI employees are available to assist employers throughout the summer.  Employees are graduates of the TeenQuest pre-employment, leadership training program.

Nonprofit organization and school systems are eligible to respond to a request for proposals (RFP) for 2013 work sites.  Informational sessions will take place on January 30 at the Regional Chamber in the Mott Building Dining Room and on January 31 at the Regional Chamber YouthQuest offices from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

According to Rhonda Broussard, Coordinator of Student Programs for Genesys Health System the SYI employees Genesys hired last summer gained a great deal of experience and provided a valuable service to the organization.

“We had students working in clerical positions, as well as participating in activities in our Geriatric Center,” said Broussard.  “The feedback from managers was overwhelmingly positive.  It was beneficial to our organization to work with the SYI employees and we look forward to hiring additional employees this summer.”

For-profit businesses receive a 50-50 salary match for SYI employees.  Nonprofit organizations and schools are eligible for a 100 percent salary grant.   For more information contact Paula Stainbrook at (810) 600-1413 or .
