Scholarship Applications Available for Female High School Seniors, Women

Funds Support Education, Training for Women Pursuing Entrepreneurial Endeavors

(FLINT, Mich., Jan. 16, 2015) – Both young and older women looking to further their education can apply for some financial help thanks to a scholarship and education fund that honor late businesswoman Katharine Roat Stevens.

The Genesee Chamber Foundation is accepting applications for both the Katharine Roat Stevens Education and Training Fund, and the Katharine Roat Stevens Scholarship Fund. Both are named in honor of Roat Stevens, a well-known local business owner and advocate for women in business. The funds support education and training for women in Genesee County pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors.

“Katharine Roat Stevens embodied the qualities of a smart, sophisticated and professional woman,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President, Education and Training, Flint & Genesee Chamber. “The Genesee Chamber Foundation is pleased to continue her legacy by offering other Flint & Genesee women the opportunity to pursue higher education in her honor.”

The Katharine Roat Stevens Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for young women who are graduating seniors from a Genesee County high school, including public, private, charter, alternative and home schooling. Applicants must have entrepreneurial aspirations, a 2.5 GPA, documented 40 hours of community service and experience in leadership roles in or out of school.

Scholarship applications are available through area high schools, by contacting the Education and Training Coordinator at , or online at https://www.flintandgenesee.org/learn/higher-education/scholarships/. Completed applications are due by March 1, 2015.

The Katharine Roat Stevens Education and Training Fund provides support for education and training opportunities for low-income women who live in Genesee County and have entrepreneurial aspirations. Applicants must be 18 or older, have an interest in becoming an entrepreneur and show financial need.

Awards may be used for college, vocational, or recognized business-related training tuition, fees and books, and will be paid directly to the training institution.

Training Fund applications are available through area colleges, by contacting the Education and Training Coordinator at , or online at https://www.flintandgenesee.org/learn/higher-education/scholarships/. Completed applications are due four times in 2015: March 30, June 30, Sept. 30 and Dec. 31.

The Katharine Roat Stevens Education and Training Fund and the Katharine Roat Stevens Scholarship Fund are held at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint and managed by the Genesee Chamber Foundation.
