Pure Michigan Economic Growth Executive Group Road Show Comes to Flint

Departmental Collaboration Rolled Out for Local Business and Civic Leaders

(FLINT, MICH)  On Wednesday, nearly 100 local business and civic leaders were on hand as the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce along with other Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Region 8 Partners hosted the Pure Michigan Economic Growth Executive Group (EGEG) Road Show at the offices of the Flint Mass Transportation Authority.  Representatives from EGEG, which was recently formed by Governor Rick Snyder to facilitate collaboration between key government departments, shared information regarding coordinated efforts to bring business to the state.

The two-hour event highlighted economic growth and the collaboration between the MEDC and other state departments, including:  Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Michigan Department of Transportation and Licensing & Regulatory Affairs.

According to Janice Karcher the event provided a good opportunity for Genesee County business leaders to join with local civic leaders in engaging the state.

“As the economic development lead for Genesee County, we are often called upon to help businesses navigate state departments,” said Karcher.  “This road show provides a blue print for working through MEDC or any of the other departments to get results.  It is a good thing for Genesee County as well the other counties in Region 8 that we are receiving first-hand information about coordinated collaboration with state departments.  This tremendous turnout is evidence that people are interested in making things happen in this region.”

Jim McBryde, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the MEDC says the turnout in Genesee County is the largest of the regions they have visited at this point in the Road Show.

“The turnout here is tremendous,” said McBryde.  “It is great to share the ways we are working to make it easier to navigate the maze of state departments.  Our Road Show was created to let business, civic and community leaders know how the state can play a greater, more coordinated role in their success.  We are embarking on some exciting things designed to enhance Michigan’s status as a place where people want to do business.”

The MEDC Region 8 Partners include Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, Lapeer Development Corporation and St. Clair Economic Development Alliance.
