Performance Fabricating expanding in Fenton, MI, adding 52 jobsDecember 16, 2015

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Dec. 10 announced Michigan Strategic Fund actions to support the expansion of Performance Fabricating, LLC in Fenton Township, a project that is expected to generate $9 million in private investment and create 52 jobs. The company has outgrown its current facility and plans to construct a new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility on Thompson Road.

“The decision of Performance Fabricating to expand in Fenton Township demonstrates Michigan’s business-friendly environment and talented workforce. It is thanks to many public and private partners that this project is taking place, and we are pleased to support that collaboration,” said MEDC Chief Executive Officer Steve Arwood. “This investment will provide good employment opportunities for Michigan residents and will create a long-term positive impact on the local economy.”

Performance Fabricating is a primary supplier to automotive, healthcare and institutional customers worldwide, specializing in steel fabrication and robotic welding. The company has been awarded a $150,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Fenton Township also has offered support to the project in the form of property tax abatement.

The company plans to work closely with Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce to interview structurally unemployed individuals and/or other unskilled high school graduates.

“The $9 million expansion of Performance Fabricating in Fenton Township represents a strong sign of growth in the area of advanced manufacturing in Genesee County,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “The new 100,000-square-foot-building will employ scores of construction workers for up to a year. Performance Fabricating will then add more than 50 well-paid jobs over the next two years, on top of the 30 employees it has currently, once the facility is completed.

“The Economic Development team at the Chamber worked with company officials to help secure the tax abatement and connect them to valuable resources. We also look forward to assisting Performance Fabricating with its talent needs, as the company looks to more than double the size of its workforce over the next few years.”
