It’s summertime in Flint & Genesee.  You can tell not only by the calendar or the intensity of the sun, but the festivities and sounds of pure fun as the region ushers in its summer festivals and events.

Just this past weekend, the Flint & Genesee Convention & Visitors Bureau, an action group of the Flint & Genesee Chamber, hosted the second annual Be a Tourist in Your Hometown event.

The purpose of the event is to remind our own community and others about some of the great amenities that Flint & Genesee has to offer, and to create more informed ambassadors for the region.

Hundreds of residents and non-residents participated in the tour, and this year participants received nearly twice the value having access to 34 venues versus 19 the year before. Transportation to the sites was provided by the Mass Transportation Authority. I want to thank the MTA once again for being a great partner.

Be a Tourist is an important extension of our See what’s possible marketing campaign, which invites visitors to see who we are… and to see and hear our story – one of new ideas, new businesses, welcoming communities and national caliber amenities. If you weren’t able to attend this year, be sure to plan for it next year. I can just about guarantee you’ll enjoy the event and learn something new.

In August, some of the region’s annual flagship events will be in full effect: the Back to the Bricks Cruise, Artomotive and CRIM Festival of Races. As most of our members know, this is also the time for our Annual Hot Rods & Hot Dogs (HRHD) event, to be held on August 14, 5- 9 pm.  HRHD is one of the ways that we say thank you to our members.  For our new members who have not attended an HRHD event, mark your calendar today!  Last year, nearly 1,000 members came out to mix and mingle, and enjoy good food, good music and good company.  I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
