The city of Grand Blanc, originally inhabited by the Chippewa, was named “Great White” by French traders before 1800. Pioneer families began to settle in 1823 and with the addition of a railroad became a small community by 1862. Today, Grand Blanc is a place for food, family and fun.
Grand Blanc has great restaurants including Da Edoardo, an upscale Italian restaurant; the Grafted Root Eatery, boasting real, simple, fresh food; Taboon Middle Eastern Cuisine and Bangkok Peppers, featuring traditional Thai cuisine. Local bars include Little Joe’s Tavern, with 20 beers on tap, and the Point Bar & Grill, a local bar with shuffleboard and pool tables.
For recreation, golf is at the forefront in Grand Blanc. With four public and private golf courses, Grand Blanc was also home to the Buick Open for many years. This year, professional golf is coming back to Grand Blanc with the Ally Challenge presented by McLaren coming to Warwick Hills.
Other fun activities in Grand Blanc include attending a yoga class at Prana Yoga Center, roller-skating at Rollhaven Skate & Fun Center, or watching a movie at Trillium Cinemas.
Sundays, from May through October, the city hosts the Grand Blanc Farmers’ Market on Grand Boulevard between Reid Road and Grand Blanc Road. Local growers from the area gather from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Grand Blanc also hosts First Friday Food Truck Festival on the first Friday of every month during the summer. From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., food trucks are lined up in the Grand Blanc High School parking lot. Usual trucks include The Mean Weenie, serving gourmet hot dogs, and Nitrology Treats, featuring liquid nitrogen ice cream.
