With the outbreak of coronavirus in Michigan, TeenQuest is closely monitoring and complying with guidance provided by local, state and federal partners including the Genesee County Health Department, State of Michigan and Centers for Disease and Control.
TeenQuest sessions are currently only offered virtually.
TeenQuest is a pre-employment and leadership training program for high school students ages 14 to 19
TeenQuest is a pre-employment and leadership training program designed to prepare teens for success in the 21st-century workplace. Enrollment is open to all students, ages 14-19 in grades 9-12, in Flint and Genesee County.
Students who graduate from TeenQuest are invited to attend the Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) Job Fair, which connects hundreds of local teens to summer employment each year. Additionally, other job and internship opportunities may become available to TeenQuest alumni throughout the school year.

This hands-on workshop series – offered after school and during the summer – aims to give students a basic understanding of skills that are required in today’s workforce. Leadership, as it relates to TeenQuest, is defined as a set of skills and the application and use of these skills at school, home and work.
Training covers core employment competencies that every employer looks for in an employee. Students must demonstrate the following skills:
- Business etiquette
- Application/resumé preparation
- Workplace ethics
- Character development
- Positive mental attitude
- Managing change
- Taking initiative
- Conflict resolution
- Setting goals
- Financial literacy

If you are 14-19 years old, in 9th-12th grade and want to learn important skills to help you get and keep a job, then TeenQuest is for you!
TeenQuest training is offered several times throughout the school year virtually and at various school sites around Genesee County. You do not need to attend classes at the school to participate in TeenQuest at that site. These options allow you to participate in other activities, such as sports and other clubs that you would also like to do after school
Virtual TeenQuest Session 1 – September 21 through October 22, 2020
To support the varying efforts of school districts in Genesee County, TeenQuest will be offered as virtual only for the first session this September. TeenQuest has successfully graduated three Virtual program sessions since the Stay at Home Order began in March. Students choosing to participate in the Virtual TeenQuest session will receive the same quality content, facilitator interaction, and meaningful assignments to support the topics covered.
By applying for the Virtual TeenQuest program, you are committing to:
- Virtual Attendance at a 90-Minute Orientation on Monday, September 21st
- Two (2) 45-minute facilitator-led online sessions per week (You will be expected to attend these two sessions during week one in addition to your 90 minute orientation)
- Approximately 90-minutes of self-guided learning per week which includes required assignments that reinforce the content covered in online modules
- Mock interview
- Participation in a volunteer engagement activity (more details to come)
- You will be required to secure a Gmail email account if you do not have one so you can easily access the software used for Virtual TeenQuest
Virtual TeenQuest can be done on a desktop computer, laptop, or mobile device
