CEO BLOG: Recognizing bright spots in Flint & Genesee

On Nov. 3, Flint & Genesee Group will host its eighth annual Art of Achievement Awards at Capital Theatre in downtown Flint. Our planning team has been working to make this event special for the award recipients and our guests. We are preparing to have a celebratory awards ceremony!

I’m pleased to tell you that Matt Franklin, an Emmy-winning journalist and anchor of ABC12 news at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., will serve as our Master of Ceremonies this year. We are thrilled to have Matt join us in celebrating the many examples of excellence that are prevalent in Flint and Genesee County.

Art of Achievement nominations are now being accepted. I hope that anyone reading this blog post will consider submitting one. This is a wonderful opportunity to nominate an individual, business or community organization, or hospitality professional for great work, great leadership or great community service. Let me share a few of reasons why the recognition is important.

  1. Because they are worth it. There are many businesses and individuals who are doing outstanding work, going beyond the call of duty, and are deserving of recognition. I am sure you know someone who would easily meet the criteria. Show that individual that you see them and appreciate them.
  2. Sends a message that your organization values excellence. A nomination is a great way to show nominees that their employer recognizes leadership and exceptional work, and so does the community in which they live and work.
  3. Shines a positive light on the community. Collectively, the award recipients bring a bright light to the community highlighting innovation, hard work, leadership, and determination that are helping to move Flint & Genesee forward, as the pandemic wanes.
  4. It is simple. The nomination forms are available on the Group’s website and should take less than 20 minutes to complete.

Time after time, we see how much people appreciate being acknowledged and highlighted for their artful ways of making a difference in our region. In fact, just recently, we announced the honorees of our 40 Under 40 program. And the feedback has been incredibly positive.

Now, as we move toward our Art of Achievement Awards, I urge you to take the time to show a colleague, co-worker, or friend, that you recognize the excellent way they do their jobs; how they care about their customers or the way they deliver on their organizations’ brand promise. You will be glad you did, and so will the Flint & Genesee Group!
