Chad Grant

Philip Incarnati, president/CEO of McLaren Health Care (MHC), on July 8 announced the promotion of Chad Grant to the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer for MHC. Prior to this promotion, he was the president of McLaren’s Central Region directing the hospital operations of McLaren Flint, McLaren Greater Lansing and McLaren Lapeer Region. In this new role, Grant will oversee all hospital operations across the organization. The McLaren system comprises 15 hospitals, including 14 in Michigan and one in Maumee, Ohio.

Grant brings an extensive background of health care leadership experience, including successful management of acute care hospital operations, strategic planning, new business development and change management. News release

Lewis & Knopf, CPAs, P.C. announced the addition of Makenzi Mae Melchor as its Director of First Impressions. A recent graduate of Mott Community College, Melchor earned an Associate of Arts in 2021. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and playing with her dogs.

Genesee Health System on July 13 held a groundbreaking for its new state-of-the-art mental and physical health treatment center on south Saginaw between 9th and 10th streets. The 60,000-square-foot building, funded by a mix of private and public funding, will bring all GHS children’s programs under one roof, including the Neurological Center for Excellence, Children’s Autism Center, and Child and Family Services. The building is on schedule to be open by the end of next summer.

The Boards of Directors for Wanigas Credit Union of Saginaw and Financial Plus Credit Union of Flint announced they have mutually agreed to pursue a possible merger, contingent upon a successful exploration and integration review, a favorable membership vote, and regulatory approval. The combined credit union would have over $1.1 billion in assets, eleven branch locations, and approximately 80,000 members.

Current Financial Plus CEO Brad Bergmooser will lead the credit union with the help of the senior management team from both credit unions. Current Wanigas CEO Bernie Williams will join the combined credit union as a member of the senior management team. All employees of both organizations will continue to be employed by the combined organization. News release

The City of Flint is highlighting small businesses located in Flint as part of a “Enjoy. Shop. Love. FLINT – Support small businesses” initiative.

“Flint is home to many entrepreneurs and small businesses that have chosen to grow in our amazing city,” said Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “We know small businesses are the largest drivers of any local economy. We must continue to support their growth with loans and grants, financial literacy workshops and engagement opportunities with economic development partners.”

The 2021 Genesee County Small Business Analysis by Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance reported that 60 percent of small businesses in Genesee County are located in Flint. News release

Medstar ambulance parked outside of Burton Fire Station No. 2

The City of Burton on July 8 announced that it​ has entered into an​ agreement ​with Medstar to provide consistent EMS service ​for its​ residents and visitors. Medstar, a not-for-profit EMS agency that serves several Michigan communities, ​has identical agreements with communities throughout lower Michigan.

“The delivery of EMS care in the City of Burton is an important part of my commitment​ to​ the highest level of services for residents and visitors,” said Burton ​Mayor D​u​ane Haskins. “Meds​tar has a reputation for ​quality clinical care, patient satisfaction, and community accountability. I look forward to the consistency they will bring to our city, their partnership with our police and fire departments, and regular reporting to my office and our ​City Council.” News release

The Flint Institute of Music on July 1 announced that The Whiting and Capitol Theatre are now officially part of the FIM family. The respective boards of the Flint Cultural Center Corp. (FCCC) and FIM ratified the master agreement. FIM and the FCCC began exploring the viability of a consolidation of operations of The Whiting and Capitol Theatre to FIM from FCCC in January 2020. A lengthy due-diligence process followed with community stakeholders and a number of consultants who specialize in performing arts management. FIM anticipates a year-long process to align and transition staff to the new integrated program model, implement a new governance structure and executive management team, and create a new, unified culture and business operation. In CNBC’s Top States for Business annual ranking, Michigan landed the #11 spot, marking a 13-spot improvement in the ranking from 2019. Michigan increased its scores in education and infrastructure, with high scores in the categories of technology & innovation, cost of living and cost of doing business helping drive the jump in the ranking. The annual ranking, which was last released in 2019, evaluates 10 broad categories of competitiveness, in part based on issues states have identified as the most important in business attraction efforts. In 2021, cost of doing business and infrastructure categories took on increased importance in the ranking – both areas Michigan excelled in. News release

The first-annual Tattoo City Tattoo Convention will be Aug. 13-15 at the Dort Financial Event Center in Flint. There is still booth space available for vendors for selling merchandise and tattoo products. Organizers are seeking body jewelry, microblading, henna tattoo, airbrushing and tattoo vendors.
