A tour of Flint’s innovation culture

For over a hundred years, Flint has been at the forefront of innovation in the country. From carriages and automobiles in the early years to entrepreneurialism and research and development of today, Flint still cultivates a culture of innovation.

Individuals interested in the innovation that is happening today in Flint can see it for themselves during Be a Tourist in Your Home Town hosted by the Flint & Genesee Conventions and Visitors Bureau. For just $1, participants can purchase a passport that grants them access to behind the scenes tours of over 30 attractions.

Tours include:

Factory Two, Flint’s very own community makerspace. Built on the idea that learning, sharing and creating are empowering and transformative forces that can open doors and revolutionize both perceptions and realities. Factory Two provides tools, equipment and training to their members with cutting-edge technology including 3D printers and drones. Members of Factory Two include small business owners, students, artists, crafters and more.

The Flint Ferris Wheel, which houses 100k Ideas, a non-profit with a mission to help innovators launch their businesses. 100k Ideas houses a group of hobbyists, innovators and thinkers with the goal of helping passionate individuals launch their startups through mentorship.

Kettering University GM Mobility Research Center, a vehicle and mobility systems development proving ground and outdoor research facility on the campus of Kettering University. The one-of-a-kind facility puts Kettering and Flint at the forefront of autonomous vehicle research and development.
