$50K in Grants to Benefit YouthQuest, TeenQuest

The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the organizations that have contributed a total of $50,000 to support local youth programming in recent months. The grantors include:

  • United Way of Genesee County, $30,000 (TeenQuest and YouthQuest)
  • Whiting Foundation, $10,000 (YouthQuest)
  • Herman Miller Cares, $5,000 (YouthQuest)
  • Child Welfare Society, $5,000 (YouthQuest)

“We are grateful for the generosity of these foundations and agencies,” said Rhetta Hunyady, vice president of Education & Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “Their support allows us to better serve our local youth and prepare them to excel in school and the workplace.”

The funding will benefit two of the Chamber’s youth and teen programs, which are administered by the Genesee Area Focus Fund and made possible with primary financial support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. They include:

  • YouthQuest, a comprehensive afterschool program that provides educational, enrichment and physical fitness opportunities for students in grades K-12
  • TeenQuest, a pre-employment and leadership training program for high school students, ages 14-19, in Genesee County

Both programs – offered at no cost to participate – are currently underway at multiple school sites in Flint and Genesee County.
