5 things to do in Flint & Genesee before summer ends

Summer is filled with events and activity in Flint & Genesee. As the school year starts to approach, now is the time to fit in those last-minute summer memories.

Here are five things you can still do before summer ends.

Catch a movie under the stars

Don’t stay inside just because you want to enjoy a movie night. Communities First, Inc. continues their popular Movies Under the Stars on Friday, August 10 at Applewood Estate playing The Secret Life of Pets and Friday, August 24 on the back lawn of Flint City Hall playing Moana.

You can also catch an outdoor movie at the US-23 Drive-In Theater any night of the week. Double features on all three screens start at dusk.

Enjoy a day at the Beach

Before the weather changes, make sure to schedule a beach day. There are plenty of things to do at local beaches. Bluebell Beach, part of the Genesee County Parks System, features a splash pad perfect for little ones. See a live concert

Attend one of Flint’s famous festivals

August is filled with festival fun. Back to the Bricks Car Show is celebrating its 14th year. The five-day community-wide festival begins Tuesday, August 14 and continues through to the main event in downtown Flint on Saturday, the 18th.

The HAP Crim Festival of Races is in its 42nd year. On August 24 & 25, Flint’s bricks will be filled with runners and walkers braving the 10-Mile race. If you are not a runner or walker, you can still enjoy an afternoon of live bands, food vendors and more.

Grab some ice cream

There are plenty of locally owned ice cream shops to stop by before they close. In Fenton, Uncle Ray’s Dairy Land specializes in homemade ice cream. Ziggy’s Ice Cream in Grand Blanc is a local favorite. Cops and Robbers boasts a classic 1950s feel in Flushing’s former Police Station. In Flint, enjoy a cold treat at Banana Boat Ice Cream on Corunna Road.
