The eTEAM provides strength in numbers

For a decade, the eTEAM was perhaps known as the organization that presented Jumpstart, a half-day conference held annually for prospective and emerging entrepreneurs in Flint & Genesee. Although the conference was retired at the conclusion of last year’s event, eTEAM is alive and well, and still hard at work helping entrepreneurs to realize their dreams and convert ideas into businesses.

The consortium is a regional collaboration of more than two-dozen entrepreneurial service providers. It’s a team effort, said Tracy Joseph, business financing manager at the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and eTEAM co-chair.

“We provide a multiplier effect of the services available for entrepreneurs in Flint & Genesee,” Joseph said. “The eTEAM doesn’t have clients, per se. Instead the member organizations that do have clients meet quarterly to discuss how best to deliver the services and resources that a particular client may need.”

100K Ideas in the Flint Ferris Wheel is the newest addition to the team. Other members include Factory 2, the FAB LAB at Mott Community College, and the University of Michigan-Flint’s Innovation Incubator. Click here for a complete list.

“We have a lot of groups working on entrepreneurial development,” said Janis Mueller, eTEAM co-chair and regional director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center, housed at Kettering University. “We work with this in mind: What is it that clients in the area need to be successful?”

The eTEAM can help with:

  • Startup information and counseling
  • Existing business information and counseling
  • Financing, loan and tax incentive programs, crowdfunding
  • Incubator programs and services
  • Business-related education and training
  • Business reference resources
  • Assistance with prototyping

“With the eTEAM,” Mueller added, “the client is plugging into a network of people who are here to help you get to where you want to be, regardless of where you are in the process.”
