(FLINT, Mich., April 24, 2015) – Registration for the YouthQuest summer program will be held May 1-8. Space is limited, so students are encouraged to register early.
YouthQuest is a comprehensive, free afterschool program that serves more than 2,000 K-12 students. It is administered by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce throughout the school year.
YouthQuest offers high-quality activities and services that encourage the exploration of new interests in the areas of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math), and promotes academic achievement, physical fitness, youth leadership and volunteerism.
In the summer, YouthQuest students participate in many of the same activities, including academics, recreation, field trips and sports. Program times vary among the sites.
“Just because school is out doesn’t mean students have to stop learning,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Chamber Vice President of Education & Training. “The YouthQuest summer program keeps Genesee County children learning and engaged. Students get good nutrition and exercise, learning opportunities, field trips and companionship at a time when many kids, unfortunately, are home alone. Our summer program is a blessing for many families.”
Students wanting to attend the summer program can register during regular program hours at their current YouthQuest site, or online athttp://www.yquest.org/index.php/get-involved/enroll-your-child.
The program will run Mondays through Thursdays at the following sites, times and dates:
- Carman-Ainsworth School District: At Dye Elementary, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 22-July 30. This site will also accept students from Randels, Dillon and Rankin elementary schools.
- Flint Community Schools: Brownell-Holmes STEM Academy, Doyle-Ryder, Durant Tuuri-Mott, Eisenhower, Freeman, Neithercut, Pierce and Potter elementary schools. These sites will run 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 29-July 30 and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 3-13.
- International Academy of Flint (Grades K-4): 12:30-4:30 p.m. June 22-July 23.
Students currently in the YouthQuest program at Carpenter Road, Cummings and Scott elementary schools, which are closing, can still register for the summer program at those locations. A summer site will be determined for those students.
In addition, YouthQuest will again conduct its Summer on the Road program for middle and high school students. Details about that program will be available soon.
