YouthQuest Students to Take the Ice at Crystal Fieldhouse

Some Flint & Genesee groups and businesses are participating to help hundreds of YouthQuest elementary students have a cool time on the ice next month.

On Feb. 23-25, Crystal Fieldhouse Ice Arena in Burton will host about 400 students daily from YouthQuest, a free afterschool enrichment program for K-12 youth in Genesee County. YouthQuest is administered by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and currently serves more than 2,000 K-12 students in 18 area schools.

“Our ice skating outing is just one of the many fantastic opportunities we have for Flint & Genesee businesses to help our students experience field trips or learn new skills that they might not otherwise get if it weren’t for the YouthQuest program,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Education & Training, Flint & Genesee Chamber.

From 4-6:30 p.m. each day of the outing, hundreds of elementary YouthQuest students from different schools will enjoy open skating with music and snacks. The University of Michigan-Flint Hockey Team is volunteering to teach basic hockey skills, as well as off-ice training.

Students will also work together to create a giant ice chandelier that will be displayed during YouthQuest’s annual ArtQuest event.

Throughout the school year, YouthQuest seeks people and businesses that have experience working with K-12 students in different areas.
