Employers Sought for Job Fair, Wage Subsidies Available

Employers Sought for Job Fair, Wage Subsidies AvailableMarch 16, 2016

Businesses that hire job applicants through the next Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Job Fair can apply for funds that cover up to half of normal hiring and employment costs during the first 90 days of employment.*

The April 22 job fair will be attended by alumni, ages 18 and older, of TeenQuest/Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) and Career Edge. Both programs prepare job seekers with soft skills, financial literacy and job interview preparation.

“This isn’t your typical job fair,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Education & Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “The job applicants have spent a considerable amount of time learning about what it takes to be a standout employee. And they’re ready to put their new skills to work.”

Prior to the invitation-only job fair, to be held at Baker College of Flint, job seekers will submit applications to the Chamber. Chamber staff will then coordinate interviews based on mutual interests and opportunities. Applicants who cannot attend the job fair can also submit resumes, which will be routed to companies that may have employment opportunities based on their career pathways.

The cost for employers to participate is free for Chamber members and $100 for non-members. The $100 fee can be applied toward a new Chamber membership.

Employers must register by April 1 to participate.
