Chamber to Debut Art of Achievement Awards; Nominations Open

Do you know of a business that is committed to making a difference in the community, a person who provides exemplary customer service or an establishment that deserves recognition?  Then consider nominating the business or person for a Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Art of Achievement Award.  The inaugural 2014 Art of Achievement Award nominations are currently being accepted.  The gala event in celebration of excellence throughout Flint & Genesee will take place on Thursday, November 6 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint.

The Art of Achievement Awards are the evolution of previous celebrations of business excellence hosted by the Chamber as part of the biennial Business Awards and Athena Awards programs combined with the Flint & Genesee Convention & Visitors Bureau’s celebration of service excellence hosted through the annual Hospitality Awards program.  As a comprehensive recognition of achievement in the region, the new program will honor businesses and individuals in 12 categories covering business and hospitality.

Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber says businesses and individuals in the region should be celebrated for continuing to play a role in building a strong regional brand.  He says hosting a gala to celebrate achievement at all levels makes sense for Flint & Genesee.

“There is an art to achieving success,” said Herman.  “A successful region is comprised of a community that goes above and beyond to have a positive impact on the community. We want to shine a light on those among us who have made great strides and set a standard of excellence.  This is our way of letting the community know who is making a difference in Flint & Genesee.”

The Art of Achievement Awards will honor businesses and individuals.  Nominations are being sought in the following business and hospitality categories:

Business Awards

  • CEO Business Award
  • Small Business Award
  • Minority Owned Business Award
  • Woman of Achievement Award
  • Young Professional Leader Award
  • Nonprofit Impact Award

Hospitality Awards

  • Gloria J. DeHart Award
  • Hospitality Ambassador Award
  • Frontline Ambassador Award
  • Restaurant of the Year
  • Hotel of the Year
  • Community Champion Award

According to Heather Kale, Director of Member Services for the Flint & Genesee Chamber the awards program will also serve as an opportunity to bring the community-at-large and the business community together in celebration.  But, she says we need help to identify those who should be recognized.

“We want to celebrate those organizations and people in the business, nonprofit and service industries that stand out,” said Kale.  “I encourage the community to nominate those who are having a positive impact on our region.  This is an opportunity to highlight the great work that is happening across Flint & Genesee.  But, most importantly I hope everyone will join us on November 6 for a grand celebration of achievement.”

Nominations are open to for-profit businesses, nonprofits and individuals in Genesee County. This year, nomination forms are available online.  Self-nomination is also permissible.

Sponsorships are also currently available for the inaugural awards event.  For more information about the awards and sponsorships contact Heather Kale at (810) 600-1427 or .
